A Tribute To The Loss of Two Great Horseman Just Days Apart
Share
It is with great sadness for the equine world that we put Bobby Kerr (67 years old) and Les Vogt (87 years old) to rest just days apart. Two men whose talents and passion could not have been more distinct, yet whose impact will be felt for generations. These amazing horseman not only touched the lives of many but left legacy's that are hard to compete with.
Bobby was known to many for his Wild Mustang Showcase through the PRCA rodeo circuit. His exhilarating acts demonstrated how much time and passion he put into his work. Having these, once wild, animals willingly jump over burning Cadillacs or even performing cutting drills with his also very talented- border collies. For many reasons Bobby was THE crowd favorite. Even in Bobby's last days he chose to perform and showcase his work despite undergoing extreme pain from illness.
Of course, Bobby's long background with Mustangs lead to many, many rewards and recognitions throughout his career including PRCA Specialty (Dress) Act of the Year, Mustang Million Finalist, Supreme Extreme Mustang Makeover Champion and Fan Favorite, and even being invited to perform as a NFR specialty act.
Les Vogt was also nothing short of being one of the greatest horsemen. As a world class trainer and mentor, Les is a legend in the cow horse world. Winning multiple NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity championships, 15 world championship titles, and a total of at least 31 championship titles over the course of his career his boots will be hard to fill.
Les is remembered by many of the younger generation as a great mentor and with his death being so unexpected many will miss out on continued mentorship throughout the year as Les is no longer here to fulfill his clinics.
To their families, friends, students, and fans: please accept heartfelt condolences. The loss of Bobby Kerr and Les Vogt leaves a heavy ache, not only in the arenas where they performed and taught, but also in the communities that loved and respected them.
May we honor them by carrying forward their lessons—whether it’s the courage to perform with joy despite adversity, as Bobby showed us, or the patience and craftsmanship to teach and build with integrity, as Les embodied.
Their reins may be set down, but their influence continues to guide us.
